"Why the 1" effective heel height?"
This question comes up more frequently than you might think.
In this video, you'll notice that the demonstrator struggles to keep his heels flat while maintaining a posture in the overhead squat position while barefoot.
By elevating his heels with that custom wooden wedge, he's not only able to get into the over head squat position faster, and more safely, but he's able to keep his chest higher, thus allowing him to be in a more stable, and desirable position.
If you struggle with mobility, having a higher heel position can be a big help.

Walk into any gym these days, be it a CrossFit box, Olympic Lifting gym, or even your standard Gold’s Gym, and you’ll see a variety of different weightlifting belts being used. For those new to lifting, you might wonder if you should be using a belt at all, while others who have been lifting for a few years now might be considering switching from velcro to leather.
